Midwest Investment Management Partner Joseph A. Harrison helped plan and coordinate the highly acclaimed Cleveland International Piano Competition, held this past summer.

Harrison currently serves as first vice president of the Competition, which is held biennially, and helps place the city of Cleveland in the top echelon of music competitions throughout the world.

The Competition was recently given a five-star rating in its category by Gustav Alink, an internationally recognized expert, and features a first prize of $50,000, thanks to the generosity of well-known Clevelanders and musical arts benefactors Mal and Barbara Mixon.

Jack Nakel, Midwest Investment Manage-ment’s director of corporate development, served as Assistant Race Director of the 13th annual “Classic At Mastick,” a 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) running event that raises college scholarship funds for area high school cross country team members.

Starting in January, Nakel volunteered his time to help plan, organize, and implement activities for the event, which was held on August 10th in the Rocky River Reservation of the Cleveland Metro Parks.

“This event has achieved local popularity and prominence among cross country runners and coaches,” said Nakel. “Many of the area’s largest high schools—including Magnificat, Lakewood, St. Ignatius, St. Edward, and Valley Forge—send their entire teams to participate.”

This year’s race generated a record amount of money, allowing more than ten scholarship grants to be awarded in November. Winners will be selected based on their academic performance, citizenship, and contributions to her/his team.
